Timpview has had a number of issues as a result of construction, including noise disruptions, flooding due to rainstorms, football home games moved to neighboring schools. However, the most consistent annoyance for Timpview’s student body and staff, has been parking.
Because of the construction there has been limited parking spots in our parking lots, Timpview administration has implemented new standards which have caused concerns with students, and many households neighboring the school.
It used to be that Timpview had 2 parking lots with around 120 total spots. People would often park on the street, and it would it could be rare to secure a parking spot. They have now removed those 2 parking lots, and opened a larger lot behind the school building.
In addition to the new parking lot they have closed a majority of street side parking, limiting spots to roughly 250. With the large student and faculty population not having anywhere to park this school year, a large problem exists. Even with this problem, new policies have arisen.
The new, current polices of parking, as seen on the Timpview website and Instagram, shows blocked off roads. Along with that, there is a new rule, “No parking within 10 feet of a mailbox on Monday-Saturday from 6am to 6pm”. This eliminates essentially all parking in neighborhoods along and near Timpview drive, and has limited parking to an all-time low.
Another issue is that many seniors, who have priority to parking, do not have a first period leaving all unclaimed parking spots to be taken by underclassmen. This gives seniors a disadvantage when it comes to parking, with or without a pass.
Will the administration change the parking policies, or will things continue to be in chaos as the school year goes on? While there is hope that things will improve, only time and parking tickets will tell.
