A scorching sun beats down on Timpview High School’s tennis courts as players, coaches, and parents gather for an afternoon match. The date is September 5th, with the Timpview T-Birds facing off against the Springville Red Devils.
With the season halfway complete, the T-Birds are not only securing victories but also enjoying their time on the court. Senior Kendall Woods ended a rally with a winning shot, while sophomore Jane Collins and freshman Sasha Tolman celebrated a successful break of their opponent’s serve. Head coach Nate Warner applauded senior Hailey Miner for a well-executed drop shot.
The team has committed to improving with each match, and they are meeting that goal. “I joined as an assistant coach a bit late in the season,” said Coach Emmett. “Overall, the team is doing a good job of staying positive, regardless of the results.”
Despite their confidence, the team remains realistic about their performance. “I believe each player has areas for improvement,” Coach Emmett noted.
Fans contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, with some of the loudest cheers heard this season. Senior Davis Gunnell, a member of the boys’ tennis team, led cheers and performed TikTok dances in support of the T-Birds. When asked about the girls’ team, he quipped, “The women’s tennis team is an exquisite example of tennis at its finest level.”
The T-Birds will compete in the Provo Invitational tomorrow, using today’s matches as a warm-up for facing some of 5A’s top teams, including region favorite Woods Cross. The team is eager to tackle the challenge and demonstrate their strength on the court.
