Timpview Football Team’s Long Way Home

Football’s sleepless commute from Corona, California to Provo, Utah
Timpview Football Team's Long Way Home

Timpview High School’s football team faced a challenging weekend as they traveled over 10 hours to Corona, California for a game against nationally ranked Centennial High School. The Centennial Huskies, led by standout quarterback Husan Longstreet, who is committed to Texas A&M with 31 additional offers, proved to be a formidable opponent. Longstreet is the top-ranked player from California and the fourth-ranked quarterback in the nation, setting the stage for a tough battle for the T-Birds.

Adding to the challenge, the Timpview players contended with temperatures soaring over 110 degrees. Despite their efforts, the T-Birds struggled in the extreme heat, ultimately falling to Centennial by a score of 56-20. Timpview managed to put 20 points on the board, but Centennial’s offense, fueled by several 5-star recruits, overpowered them with five touchdowns.

While the loss was difficult, Timpview’s players took the opportunity to learn from their high-caliber opponents, hoping to apply those lessons in their next game against Springville.

After the game, the team made a stop at Huntington Beach on Saturday morning, spending three hours unwinding before embarking on the long trip home. The journey was marked by some team bonding, including a “Defensive Idol” singing competition on one of the buses. Though there was no declared winner, defensive player Zack Russ jokingly claimed he was “the star of the show”.

The team’s return to Utah stretched into the early hours of Sunday morning, arriving in St. George around midnight. One of the defensive coaches implemented a “no sleeping rule” for the last leg of the trip, blasting music to encourage camaraderie as the team made their way back to Provo by 3 a.m.

Despite the outcome of the game, the Timpview football team believes the experience brought them closer together. The players and coaches are hopeful the bonds formed and lessons learned will translate into a stronger performance in their upcoming game against Springville.
