In a challenging season, senior Max “Biz” Clark demonstrated why he is an influence to the Timpview boys’ golf team and Timpview spirit. Clark led the Thunderbirds to a crucial victory over Spanish Fork. At the region tournament at Spanish Oaks, he shot a 73 (+1), taking first place and putting his team in a strong position as they near the state tournament.
With his impressive performance, Clark stated, “not gonna lie, it wasn’t my smoothest round or really even my best round. The course was playing tough, but I knew I could play solid. I never thought I was going to win… but I’m not saying I was surprised.”
This season hasn’t been all trouble-free for the T-Birds. Even while being first in the region, the team has had to manage their own hardships. “It’s been disappointing how close we’ve been these last couple tournaments, especially with how last year went down,” Clark admitted. “But we’re not going anywhere.”
Despite the team’s talent, Clark noted some internal challenges. “Some of us set our expectations too high,” he said. “If we can lock in, we’ve got the best skill in the state. But if we can’t, we’re not going anywhere.”
With the state tournament approaching and Coach Ward back from suspension, Clark remains hopeful. “Coach Ward’s great,” Clark said. “But I’ve felt like I’ve had to take on a coaching role myself. Now that he’s back, I can solely focus on my golf game.” This shift in focus is crucial for their upcoming tournament. “We’ve got a chance at state, no doubt. We just need to play to our real abilities and we’ll be alright.”
As the golf team prepares for the end of season and state, we wish the golf team, and Clark, the best of luck!
