This year’s homecoming assembly sparked negative emotions due to a booing restriction that left many students feeling their freedom of expression was restricted (see here for more information). Despite the controversy, students still celebrated school spirit and showcased various talents. The choir kicked things off with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, sounding the start of the assembly.
The program included multiple choreographed dances performed by the cheerleading squad, dance crew, and dance company, each bringing their unique style to the floor. The assembly also featured a musical number from the cast of “Seussical,” offering a sneak peek into their upcoming fall production.
Students and teachers participated in various games during the assembly, starting with tug-of-war. The Juniors triumphed over the Sophomores, while the Seniors claimed victory against both the Freshmen and the Juniors. In the final round, the teachers faced off against the Seniors. After a fierce competition, the teachers made a strong comeback in the end, leaving the Seniors defeated.
The next game featured a series of amusing challenges, including running in “ruby red” high heels, spinning around a bat, tossing stuffed monkeys into a bucket, and gulping down a mystery drink. As the game began, students and teachers sprinted in their heels, with many of the guys struggling to keep the shoes on, while one girl took off sprinting.
After several more impressive dance numbers from the cheer squad and dance company, student government announced the final game: musical chairs. The game quickly eliminated the players, narrowing the field to the last few lucky students. In an exciting final round, two Juniors came out on top, making it a double win for their class. The Junior class flooded the floor, celebrating an awesome win.
Finally, the awaited moment of the assembly arrived: the announcement of homecoming royalty, with king and queen to be announced. This year’s homecoming royalty includes the following:
Freshmen: Emery Cox and Wyatt Riskas
Sophomores: Alivia Russell and Issac LaClaire
Juniors: Nora Roney and Trenton Osguthorpe
Seniors: Abigail Billeter, Megan Booker, Edna Carabantes, Ben Rowan, Zack Russ, and Tim Sumway.
Thank you to everyone who put time and effort into this week’s festivities and assembly. The hard work and enthusiasm put in by everyone made this week memorable and enjoyable for all.
