As Halloween approaches and the leaves begin to change, there’s no better way to get into the spooky spirit than by watching some of the best Halloween movies. Timpview students were asked for their favorites. In no particular order, here are the top five picks!:
1. Monster House — Fisher Ross
Monster House follows three kids who uncover a sinister secret: an old house that comes alive and devours everything in its path. Fisher describes the impressive characters, particularly of the old man, as a key reason for the movie’s charm. “It’s a thrilling adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat!”
2. Coraline — Jillian Freedman
In Coraline, a young girl discovers a door to a parallel world where everything seems perfect—until it isn’t. Jillian loves its spooky yet enchanting atmosphere, stating, “Coraline is a classic that perfectly captures the eerie essence of Halloween. It’s a film you can enjoy year-round, but it hits differently during this season!”
3. Twitches — James Hall
Disney’s Twitches tells the story of twin sisters separated at birth who discover their magical powers and reunite to save the world. James fondly recalls watching it with his sisters and appreciates its themes of sisterhood. He adds with a smile, “Plus, the girls are pretty cool!”
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas — Walter “Elliot” Myers
This Tim Burton classic beautifully blends Halloween and Christmas through the adventures of Jack Skellington, who seeks to bring Christmas cheer to Halloween Town. Elliot believes, “The Nightmare Before Christmas embodies the true spirit of Halloween and is essential viewing during this time of year.”
5. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown — Joey Covey
This beloved Peanuts special captures the charm and nostalgia of childhood Halloween experiences. Charlie Brown and Linus await the Great Pumpkin while their friends go trick-or-treating. Joey cherishes it for its nostalgic value, sharing, “We watched it every year in the library in elementary school. It’s a tradition that never gets old.”
