This past week, October 7-11, the Timpview Latino’s in Action club hosted a spirit week. This week was focused on celebrating Hispanic heritage with dress up days such as; pajama day, Food and Music day, and represent your country day. On Tuesday, girls wore their beautiful Quinceañera dresses and boys wore their chambelan tuxedos. During lunch, they had music to dance to, as if there was a Quince party happening. On Thursday, the club brought traditional drinks and food. Horchata, empanadas, and alfajores were being served for everyone to participate in the Hispanic culture and learn more about it.
Senior Nick Gerstner was interviewed, who is a big part of the Timpview Student body. He always participates in the spirit weeks put on by the school and clubs. He said he loved getting to dress up as his country, America, and still feel a part of the Hispanic Heritage week even though he isn’t Hispanic. Gerstner agreed that, “it was cool to see some of the girls’ Quince dresses,” as well as being a part of, “the loteria and the food in the great hall”. This week brought a lot of ways to unite many different cultures by learning about Hispanic culture. Edna Carabantes, who is a part of Latino’s in Action and has been for the past couple of years, explained that this week helped to, “show [their] culture through many different ways”. This was their end goal, and it’s safe to say that the club accomplished that. We can’t wait to see what Latino’s in Action will do next!
