The now-dubbed “Pointe Dancers” in the school musical Seussical started rehearsals! Having gone through two full-day practices, these dancers are looking great! These lovely ladies were interviewed, and here is what they have to say about their experience.
These girls have all been dancing their whole lives, and this is their first production with Timpview Theater! When asked why she auditioned, Emma Woodward said she loves “ballet and challenging [herself] to do something new,” while Bella Fillmore said it would be “such a fun opportunity.” As a whole, they are most excited about performing, whether it be the scene “Circus McGurkus,” or the opportunity to dance alongside their friends.
Looking ahead, all of them see dance as a part of their lives through dancing in college. Two of the four mentioned Broadway as a previous interest, so who knows! Maybe being a part of Seussical will spur them to take action and get interested in acting or singing once more?
Now, let’s get to some questions!
How often do you rehearse, both individually and as a cast?
The pointe dancers are in around three sections of the show, and as such have three rehearsals and all of tech week! Woodward said she “goes over choreography every night,” and the other dancers responded similarly.
Where are your rehearsals?
The temporary dance studio, AKA the “dungeon” underneath the auditorium stage seems to be where these hard working dancers are learning their choreography, but Fillmore said they’ve “had the opportunity to run [their] pieces on the stage alongside the other performers, which has been really nice!”
How are you feeling about the show so far? Nervous? Excited? Relieved?
Katherine Gal said she is “excited to see what’s to come” of the whole show and has loved getting to “meet everyone in the theater production!” Woodward agreed, saying she has “never done anything like this before” and feels “so welcomed by the entire cast and everyone involved!”
What is your favorite part of the entire casting to performance process?
Fillmore said performing, and how she adores “the costumes, the hair, the strengthened bonds between performers, the crowd, the lights, everything!” Her fellow dancers feel the same way, and all gushed over their love of Mrs. Naperski and their choreographers.
All in all, this seems to be a positive experience for all involved! The dancers feel welcomed by the lovely Theater Department, and the Director, Kennedy Napierski, seems overjoyed to have her visions translated into dance! These performers can’t wait to show what they’ve been working on, and you can show support by attending the production from November 14th through the 19th!
