In an adrenaline-filled game, Timpview football beat the Orem Tigers 35-21 at Orem High. This was a sad game for the Tigers, as it was their senior night. The T-Birds will finish the normal season 6-2, the only losses to Lone Peak and Corona High.
Early in the first quarter, a shocking 84-yard touchdown reception by senior Taani Makasini (#9) was made, with a successful PAT by junior Luke Thornock (#37). Orem then tied up the game with a touchdown about halfway through the first quarter. Then junior Aisa Galea’i (#0) made a 3-yard touchdown run and a Thornock made another good PAT, bringing the score up to 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second and third quarters were much less eventful, both teams scoring once. Freshman Dennis Tua’one (#12) made a 28-yard reception with a successful PAT by Thornock in the second quarter. Orem scored in the last minute of the third quarter, making the score 21-14.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, star quarterback and senior Carson Rasmussen (#2) was injured and had to sit out the rest of the game. Timpview brought in Provo transfer and senior Soakai Aston (#11), who played the rest of the game. Shortly after this substitution, Galea’i was able to score another 13-yard touchdown run with another PAT by Thornock, bringing the score up to 28-14. Orem fought back and scored a touchdown and a successful PAT, making it 28-21. At the end of the fourth quarter, Aston again threw a huge 21-yard touchdown pass to senior Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio (#7) and Thornock made his final PAT of the game, and a final score of 35-21.
Congrats to Timpview Football on a huge win against one of their biggest rivals and competitors. The T-Birds will move on to the state tournament as one of the top seeds in 5A.
