Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler’s newest album, brent iii, came out November 1st. It consists of eleven tracks; ashes and rust, A-frame, i miss you, terrible things, black and white, five minutes, toothbrush song (by Jeremy), love you loving me (by Chelsea), and the government too!, just breathe, and good things. They gave an unexpected sneak peak of their album by dropping the song, black and white, a month early.
This is Jeremy and Chelsea’s third collaboration. Before this they came out with their first album collaboration together called Brent in 2019, then came out with Brent ii in 2021.
This album, considered indie pop, is very chill and great to listen to during this particular season, where you want to listen to very mellow music. The sound in Brent iii is very unique and fun. They use electronic beats, and acoustic guitar, which is one of the factors that makes it sound so smooth and chill.
Brent iii focuses a lot on relationships throughout the whole album. This is shown in the song ashes and rust, where they talk about the grief and sadness of losing someone you love. The theme is similar in, i miss you, because the whole song is about their memories with someone who they miss.
The one weakness I can see is just that all of the songs all sound kind of similar. But it’s not too the same that it takes away from the album.
In whole, the album is very good. The sound’s/instruments they use contribute to the overall effect that the album is going for. Altogether, out of all three brent albums, this one is the best. These are the reasons why:
- There is a clear theme in Brent iii, while in the other two albums, it is not as clear or noticeable.
- There are more songs to enjoy in the new album because in both Brent, and Brent ii, they only have 5 tracks on each.
- The lyrics in Brent iii overall have a deeper meaning than the other two albums.
I would rate this album 8.5
