On November 5th, 2024, Automotive teacher Mr. Michael Hassell passed away. Timpview released an announcement the morning of November 6th to inform students and reassure them.
The following is the statement that was read by teachers during first period:
This tragic event has deeply affected many students, hundreds of which Mr. Hassell had taught at Timpview. He was known for emphasizing punctuality, teaching a valuable trade that sparked the interest of many, and most importantly, instilling lifelong lessons to help prepare students for the future.
I was one of Mr. Hassell’s students. It was an enlightening experience as I had no prior knowledge of automotive and engine repair. Though it was a challenge for me, Mr. Hassell made it an enjoyable and rewarding experience. He had a joke for every occasion, frequently shared his passion for hobbies like playing guitar, and it was clear he had years of experience and deep knowledge in his field. He often spoke fondly of his family, and his Timpview family. He built trust with his students, even letting me drive cars around the shop. I was never afraid to ask Mr. Hassell for help, he was always willing to work with students so they could really accomplish something in his class. Mr. Hassell had a unique ability to teach students from diverse backgrounds and help them truly understand and appreciate what he was sharing.
Students have even been sharing their stories, good memories, and photos of Mr. Hassell on social media. These posts have connected students through their shared experiences.
Mr. Hassell will be greatly missed by students, faculty, and parents alike.
