Timpview continued on their path to the state championship in a game against Orem on Friday, November 8. Timpview beat Orem 42-8, securing a spot in the Semifinals against Roy High School.
The first quarter started out strong with an interception by junior Aisa Galea’i (#0) giving the T-Birds an advantage that carried them throughout the game. There was a struggle to score until when Timpview, shortly followed by Orem scored, but Orem made a two-point conversion, while Timpview only got away with a PAT after scoring. Galea’i then scored again with a successful PAT by junior Luke Thornock (#37). The quarter ended at 14-8.
The second quarter was similar, but Timpview was able to score about halfway through. Senior Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio (#7) caught a pass to get the touchdown, and Thornock made the PAT. With 30 seconds left in the half, senior Soakai Aston (#11) made a rushing touchdown, complete with a good PAT by Thornock. The score at the half was 28-8.
The third quarter was very similar to the other two, with the only points made by Timpview about halfway through the quarter. Aston made another short rushing touchdown, and Thornock made the PAT, bringing the score up to 35-8.
The fourth quarter started out strong with a rushing touchdown and good PAT, but quickly took a bad turn. Orem defensive lineman, AJ Snow was injured in the head or neck region causing a delay. This caused a 20-minute delay to ensure Snow’s safety and get him proper medical help. Both teams agreed upon a 3-minute warmup period after, but both sides ended up running the clock out when they returned to the field.
In an interview with senior Taani Makasini (#9), he said he “feels like [he] played well but there is always room for improvement.” Makasini played well with multiple good tackles as a defensive back and has committed to play at BYU. He told me to beat Roy and win the state championship they need to “focus on themselves and what they need to do to be their best, and control what they can control and do their job.”
Timpview will move on to the semifinal game next week at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game will be on Friday, November 15 at 11 am. The Thunderbirds will play Roy in a tough game to decide who will go to the 5A State Championship Game. All students and fans are invited to attend wearing blue and to cheer loud!
