In a heartbreaking game against Roy High School, Timpview’s season ended at the state semifinal game with a 29-19 loss. The T-Birds played well and fought hard, but were unable to hold the Royals off in the last quarter of the game.
During the first quarter, both teams struggled to put points on the board, With about six minutes left in the quarter, Roy’s #5 scored a touchdown and they made the PAT. Timpview responded with a 20-yard field goal made by junior Luke Thornock (#37) to close the first quarter at 3-7.
The second quarter went better for Timpview, but both teams fought hard and held each other off. Roy scored a field goal with six minutes left. Carrying on, Timpview scored with less than five minutes left of the second quarter; junior Jaron Pula (#5) caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from senior Soakai Aston (#11). At the end of the half, Thornock scored another field goal for the T-Birds to lead 12-10 at halftime.
The third quarter was yet another fight to score points. Roy’s #5 scored another touchdown, but their two-point attempt failed. With less than a minute to go in the quarter, junior Aisa Galea’i (#0) scored a running touchdown, and Thornock’s successful PAT put the T-Birds ahead 19-16 going into the final quarter.
The last quarter was unsuccessful for Timpview, as Roy scored 13 points. They scored a field goal nine minutes in, a touchdown with four minutes left, and another field goal with thirty seconds left. The game ended 29-19, in a saddening loss for Timpview.
Despite the touch loss, Timpview’s season has been a testament to resilience. They were able to battle through losing multiple key players to injury and continued to compete at a high level. Unfortunately, there will not be another chance at a state championship for Timpview High School this school year. Timpview has fought hard and all the players should be very proud as the school and community are. Go T-Birds!
