Timpview Theater produced their annual Fall show, “Seussical,” this past weekend, and it was a hit among students and other viewers alike. On opening night, Thursday of last week, an excited crowd filled the audience as the show prepared to begin. Timpview’s theater program has been regarded highly in the last few years, but since a new director came onto the stage at the beginning of this year, students and fans of Timpview Theater have waited to see what path the program would take after the major directorial change. After hits such as, Little Women and Les Miserables coming from the last couple years, Timpview students have looked to this upcoming show as the answer to their much anticipated questions over the new direction Theater would take. After watching Seussical, many can agree that this new director will take Timpview Theater to new heights, and continue its well upheld legacy of greatness.
Among the many great actors and actresses of Seussical, Taft Smith shined in his lead role as ‘The Cat in the Hat.’ After performing in leading roles for most of his time in high school, his most recent role in Seussical showed his skill in a new light. He stood out with his quick and witty comedic acting, as well as impressive musical numbers. Alongside him for most of the show was Elsa Perry, portraying the character, ‘Jojo.’ Her energetic and heartfelt performance was felt throughout the entire show, and she proved to be a wonderful lead alongside Smith. A few other performances to note would be the talented Cannon Hadfield as Horton, a full-of-love character who had to fight the prejudice in his surroundings, and Gracie Griffin’s bubbly acting as his love interest, Gertrude. Claire Moreira and Anna Kocherhans both exhibited incredible singing skills in their respective roles, and really added a level of quality overall to the show.
After going through the entire length of Seussical’s performances, it’s safe to say that Timpview Theater has made a strong start to the year. The show’s whimsical sets, outstanding musical numbers and performances along with the lighthearted and offbeat nature of the production, show great potential for the rest of the year. Make sure to be on the lookout for the rest of Timpview Theater’s performances this school year.
