Timpview Football had a loss last friday, Nov. 15, to Roy High School in the Semifinals with the score of 19-29. This was unexpected from a team picked to win 5A. Now, the coaches gear up for next year. What is known about next is very uncertain because we’re unsure who is transferring in or out of Timpview. What we do know is that they’ll lose 26 players due to graduation. Timpview also lost their 6 captains Alema Foster, Taani Makansini, Zed Ana-Ambrosio, Matthias Lesa, Lawyer Atuaia, and Daniel Beckstead because they are graduating seniors. This will hurt the team in leadership positions, but they are sure to be replaced.
Offense:
However, Aisa Galea’i is expected to stay, which will help fill those these empty roles. Galea’i is a 3-year starter, and arguably the best player on the team. Offensively he is a threat as he scored 9 rushing touchdowns, as well as 1 receiving touchdown on the season. Also, if Timpview can return Kennan and Jaron Pula, they will nearly return their whole receiving core. Jaron had 8 receiving touchdowns and 1,200 yards on 79 receptions last year which lead the team. Timpview’s offensive line will only return Tipa Galea’i and Ian Aloisio. This means they won’t have a very experienced line. However, the Quaterback position is up for grabs. It all depends on who transfers in or if they give the QB position to an underclassmen, like possibly Dennis Tua’one.
Defense:
Timpview’s defense will return some starters from last year. These players are Aisa Galea’i, Kennan Pula, Jaron Pula, and Braxton Wilkerson. These players will have the most varsity experience on the defensive side of the ball. Aisa is coming off a year with 10 interceptions, Braxton with 4 interceptions, and Kennan is also coming off a year with 4 interceptions. They will be covered with their safeties and corners, but it depends on who they move or pick up for linebackers and the defensive line, or if Tipa and Ian play both offensive and defensive.
Special Teams:
Special teams look like they return some main pieces as of right now. They’ll return Luke Thornock as the kicker. Thornock is coming off a good year with a hurt back. Luke was 42/45 on PAT’s and ⅗ on field goals. His longest was 45 yards out, which is a huge accomplishment. They will return their main returners in the Pula twins or Galea’i.
This is a team that will have some veteran leaders like Braxton Wilkerson, the Pula Twins, and Aisa Galea’i. We are saddened by their loss on November 15, but know they will be back for the next season. We wish Timpview football the best of luck next year!
