As the holiday season approaches, Timpview High School invites its students, staff, and community to join in spreading joy through our service opportunities including the Sub for Santa, Angel Tree, and the food pantry drive. These cherished traditions embody the giving spirit of the Thunderbirds, making the holidays brighter for those in need. Whether it’s donating money, food, or selecting a gift from the Angel Tree, there are countless ways to contribute to this season of giving
The Sub for Santa program is a cornerstone of Timpview’s holiday efforts. Students and families can contribute by donating cash, checks or gift cards, which can be dropped off to room N232 or the Financial Office. These are all simple ways to spread kindness and love throughout the Christmas season! Additionally, donations of non-perishable food pantry items like granola bars, mac and cheese, and fruit snacks are being collected to support students across the Provo School District.
For nearly a decade, Sub for Santa has been a cherished Timpview tradition using donations in class and caroling at homes. As of this year, the Student Government is changing Sub for Santa to an Angel Tree! This will offer another heartwarming way to help out our community. Located in Ms. Baker’s Room, the Angel Tree is filled with tags featuring the names and needs of children, teens, and adults in the Timpview community. Each tag corresponds to a single gift request, with prices ranging from $5 to $20, making it an accessible and meaningful way to give for the financially capable. Participants must grab a tag before Friday, December 10, and can choose from a variety of wish list items to make someone’s Christmas season magical. The Angel Tree will also be available at some of Timpview’s December holiday events.
The reason for this change is because classroom collections can’t continue for legal reasons. It is tricky ground for teachers to directly collect money in their classrooms, although it was strictly for Sub for Santa. Caroling also won’t continue for safety reasons. If anything happened to a student, the school would be held responsible, making caroling unrealistic.
If there are any questions about how to donate, or anything else about Sub for Santa, please do not hesitate to ask Ms. Baker or anyone a part of the Student Government. Around the first week of December, there will be a video/commercial about each way to donate throughout the month and will explain more in detail about what is going on. T-Birds, Let’s make this a great season of giving! Whatever you can do to contribute makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the people in our community. Stop by Baker’s room before or after school to get involved and spread the holiday spirit. Happy Holidays!
