At a school like Timpview, so close to a ski resort, it’s surprising to meet somebody who doesn’t ski or snowboard.
As soon as new flurries start to fall, all anybody can talk about is going skiing. People get restless, looking out the window, watching the snow build up. Knowing they can get in their car and drive straight to Sundance.
Some people just can’t resist. The awe of fresh powder is too tempting to be patient.
The feeling of strapping into your skis is so exhilarating. Whereas the feeling of sitting at your desk is so uninteresting. Ask any student with a ski pass where they’d rather be. The answer will always be the same.
They’d rather be swinging their legs back and forth on a lift, carving through fresh powder, and dropping into a bowl filled with perfect moguls. There’s nothing better.
After I come back from skiing I feel so elated, fulfilled, and energetic. I avoid that daily 3PM crash. Compared to when I come home from school I’m so lethargic. I never feel like I have the energy to get anything done. I have zero motivation to sit down and start my homework. Especially after such a long day of school. But contrast that to a day I’ve gone skiing. I come home from the mountains feeling super motivated. I have the energy to do everything I would normally feel too tired to do. I’m able to jump right into my homework.
Now most people would argue that if you skip school to go skiing then you’re missing out on being in class and getting things done. You’ll just have to make up for all the work that you missed. But if I’m out skiing instead of being at school I’m not concerned about not being in class. Because I know that I’ll be able to get everything done easily. I know I’ll be motivated enough.
There’s so many benefits to being out skiing. You’re getting outside and getting exercise. Everywhere around you are beautiful mountains, trees, and powder white snow. Not to mention the release of endorphins will ultimately result in a feeling of a natural high.
Skiing is just so good for your soul. Anybody would rather be nourishing their soul than sitting at a desk.
