One of the biggest games of the year for Utah High School Basketball is set to take place on January 17th. The #1 team Orem will take on the #3 team Timpview in the Thunderdome. It is the most anticipated match-up between the two schools this year. This game is 1/2 that they’ll play in the 24-25 season. The last time these two teams played was the Quarter Finals last year. Timpview came back from a 10+ point deficit to win that game.
So far, Orem is having a great year with a record of 10-3. They started off the year winning against Sierra Canyon. Sierra Canyon is known for numerous CA State Championships and for producing numerous NBA prospects including Bronny James. They are led by a Big 3, Chance Dastrup, Jax Allen, and Chamberlin Burgess. Dastrup is leading Orem in assists with nearly 10 a game. Allen is the second leading scorer with 12 PPG. Lastly, Burgess is leading the team with 14.7 PPG. All three of those players are committed to colleges: Dastrup to Long Beach State University, Allen to Utah State, and Burgess to Brigham Young University.
Timpview has had a great season, being 10-3. They beat nationally ranked Harvard-Westlake at HoopFest. Harvard-Westlake is a team that has also developed multiple NBA players, and they won the State Championship last year. They are led by their big 3, Dean Ruckert, Aisa Galeia, and Will Openshaw. Ruekcert is a 4-star recruit leading the team with 19.4 PPG. Galeia doesn’t lead the team in anything but does everything well in every stat and is an all around player. Openshaw is averaging 11.5 PPG, with about 2 blocks a game. All these players are being recruited by numerous college programs, and Galeia is being recruited for Football programs. Timpview also has various role players such as Jackson Palmer and Callen Tollestrup to fill the weak spots in.
Both of these teams are fairly matched up. The key to winning for Timpview is to target their game against Orem’s players and play to their weaknesses. By doing this, the Thunderbirds can secure another big win.
This game will be big for both teams as the Timpview and Orem rivalry continues. Get a seat close to the floor and come support the T-Birds in their big game. We hope to see as many people cheering on Timpview and we wish the players good luck!
