Recent changes in the Timpview High School football coaching staff have left the team without two of its key coaches. Defensive coordinator, Jray Galea’i, and offensive coordinator, Nick Robins, have moved on from Timpview in order to pursue new opportunities. Their departure from the school’s coaching staff leaves significant roles to be filled for the upcoming season.
Galea’i has joined the football staff at Utah State University and Robins took the head coaching position at Mountain Ridge High School. Their exit from the staff leaves substantial gaps to fill as both positions play vital roles in the game of football. Offensive coordinators are in charge of the offense, and typically call the plays for the offense throughout the game. Similarly, the defensive coordinator is responsible for and calls plays for the defense throughout the game.
In an interview with head coach Donny Atuaia, he describes these changes as “good, because for coaches, especially after a couple good seasons, the interest for them to come and improve any program arises.” Although these shoes will be difficult to fill, Atuaia says that “it’s nice to see that coaches are wanted elsewhere because of the good stuff they do.” When asked about the plan to replace these trusted coaches, Atuaia describes the need for this to be “as soon as possible, but it’s just a matter of finding the right coaches for the players we have.” Coach Atuaia has a big role to play to find coaches that will best help the team and continue to take them to the next level moving forward.
In sharing his appreciation for these coaches, Atuaia stated that “Utah right now is becoming known for having good coaches, especially at the high school level.” He is happy for these former Timpview coaches and the opportunities they are receiving. Coaches Galea’i and Robins will be missed, and filling these gaps will be difficult, but the Timpview Football program will press forward and continue to grow.
