Each year in March, high schools around Utah participate in the widely known, yet sparsely attended, Battle of the Bands. Your buddy that likes to play in his garage gets a band together, and jams out your school cafeteria or commons. The competition starts with the bands in your own school who will play on March 3. If your band is selected you move on to Multi-Region which is most likely to be held at UVU as it has been in the past. However, the location for the final competition is undecided. The judging system currently in place has five professional judges for each level but are not allowed to serve twice in the competition. The judges assign penalties, points, and disqualifications if necessary. They are also allowed to give constructive criticism.
While the competition is famous, it’s largely illusive, what’s unknown is that the competition is

statewide, and the winners of your local competition could be competing for the following weeks at competitions at a progressively higher level. The final competition crowns the best band in the State of Utah.
While there is no available list of the Bands that are competing this year, there are some bands that are expected to compete. This year will have more bands playing than usual.
Some of the known bands that are playing are Peter Snow’s The Lipps, John Wilson’s Lavon, and Sloan Chase’s Lady Macbeth. On his final opportunity to compete, senior Peter Snow said, “I am so excited, every year it’s just so fun to see all these people expressing themselves through music.” Peter portrayed rather than a competition, Battle of the Bands acts as a showcase of people’s talents and a celebration of good music.
With March 3 around the corner, it is assured that everyone who is participating at the Battle of the Bands would be excited to see you there. Whether you want to support your friends, or just see what these bands have to offer, this is a fantastic opportunity to engage with your Timpview community!
