With spring sports starting up, the boys Tennis team is back in full swing! And, with the new season, there are some new changes to Timpview Tennis! Nate Warner has stepped down to assistant coach of the Boys team and a new coach, Emmit Hart is currently the head coach. The team is looking really strong for this year’s season and they are all very eager to get started and play tennis. I spoke with the following players regarding their thoughts on the upcoming season. Rowan Halladay (junior), Luke Clark (senior), and Daniel Beautler (junior). Along with this I also interviewed Nate Warner on his thoughts
The players are all excited and have high hopes for their upcoming season. Junior Rowan Halladay said, “I am feeling really good going into this season, we have a really strong team and I really like our chances for this year.” Other players also noted their excitement about the strength of this team. Luke Clark added “going into my senior year, one of my main goals is to have fun and stay positive.” Halladay also added, “If we take state, it will be Timpview’s 100th state title, which would be a really awesome accomplishment and I like our chances.” On a similar note, Junior Daniel Beutler talked about the fact that boys tennis is the most decorated sport at Timpview High School. Many of the boys this season share similar thoughts through their excitement. The assistant coach, Nate Warner said that “the expectations are sky high. The boys tennis team is very good and very deep. Our goal is to win Region, win the Ashton tournament and to win the 5A state championship! It’s going to be an exciting journey and this team is very capable of achieving all of those goals!”
Additionally, the boys added that their team this year was especially “stacked.” Clark mentioned that boys are all especially excited to try and make it to the State Tournament, as most teams do. State is an exciting time to compete at a high level and these boys know what they are capable of.
At the beginning of the season, Coach Nate Warner made the difficult decision to step down from his position as head coach. This is a huge change, and Emmit Hart stepped up as head coach. On this change, Clark said “I am glad Nate is sticking around, I really like Emmit as a coach, and I am glad I get to have them both this season.” Halladay agreed and said, “I like our coaching staff and am happy with Emmit joining us.” On this change, Nate said that “the decision to step down was agonizing. We have a great team and excellent young men. I felt like I couldn’t give it 100% to coach this year because of an ecclesiastical calling, and I thought it would be unfair to the boys. So, I switched roles to help as an assistant this year.” This decision was clearly a difficult one, but Warner believes he can still make a impact as Assistant coach.
Warner also stated that coaching has been the highlight of his career at Timpview. “I love coaching the competitive, unselfish, hard-working teams of young men and women. It’s fun, challenging, and rewarding to help players buy into the team goal of winning a championship. Excellence in sports requires you to pay the price with hard work and sacrifice. When all that comes together and you win a championship there is no better feeling! I love coaching as well because of the opportunity to build lifelong relationships with excellent young men and young women.”
Timpview Boys Tennis has a big season in front of them, and we are all excited to see what this year will bring!
