The Timpview Cheer Team is hosting open tryouts on March 21. Timpview Cheer has a JV and a Varsity team, and there are two days of clinic that every athlete is required to attend two days prior to tryouts. This information is available on the timpviewcheer.blogspot website, along with the register my athlete form that needs to be completed prior to tryouts!
Tryouts are fun, and set up the vibe for the rest of the season. Timpview Cheer competes for themselves, as well as cheering for football, basketball, wrestling, and volleyball. These events can be time consuming, but they are so fun and create an opportunity to make amazing memories with all of your friends. The team spends so much time together, and you learn to get along with everyone. We encourage everyone to try out, no matter the skill level!
Head coach Zoe Hale’s tip to new athletes trying out is to “make sure you have the checklist and material ready before! Focus on fast clean motions and smile and have fun!” The material includes the dance, fight song, and 3 cheers. We will be going over these at the tryout clinics on March 19 and 20, but not learning them. Practice all of these routines until you know them well enough to teach them to someone else. Knowing these routines is crucial to having a smooth and successful tryout, and increasing your chances of making the team.
It is also super important to understand how tryouts work. The coaches will go more in depth and show a mock tryout at the clinics, but typically they look like this: first your best running tumbling pass, next your standing tumbling and jumps, then, you will perform one of the 3 learned cheers, then the fight song, and lastly the dance. Along with that, you will try out at the same time as 2-3 other people. Tryout material is live!
Timpview Cheer cannot wait to see everyone there!
