On April 4, 2025 the greatest film of all time was released to the public: A Minecraft Movie. After years of the movie being edged to fans all over the world, it finally made its debut. The movie had the biggest box office weekend so far, racking in a whopping $163 million. Thousands of Minecraft fans gather to observe the masterpiece on the big screen. So the real question is: is the Minecraft movie actually good?
The overall premise of the movie was “Jack Black having fun on set.” The story follows four misfits who are transported into the blocky Overworld and must team up with expert builder Steve to survive and find a way home. Along the way, they face monsters, learn teamwork, and embrace creativity. The movie was basically described as a meme. If you are familiar with the “Minecraft Lore,” this movie will mix classic elements like the Ender Dragon, the Nether, and subtle Herobrine references into a fun cinematic adventure.
Many are on the fence about if the movie is strictly for pre-teen boys, however thousands of college students and adults have proved this idea wrong. A Minecraft Movie has brought in armies of people who are over the age of eighteen. Riots of fans show up to the theater and thus the Chicken Jockey incident was born.
During a scene in the movie, Steve spots a baby zombie riding a chicken, a rare occurrence known in the game as a “chicken jockey.” When Steve exclaims “CHICKEN JOCKEY!” the theater erupts into a celebration. Thus, the chicken jockey trend that has taken over the country. Popcorn flying in the air, grown men on the shoulders of other men holding up a live chicken, flashlights lighting up the room, making the Minecraft movie a night you will never forget. As a result of this, the movie has been paused mid-showing multiple times where people even end up getting thrown out of the theater.
If you are debating on seeing the Minecraft Movie, I highly recommend you go and witness the newest phenomenon. This is a movie for everyone to enjoy while eating popcorn out of a TNT bucket. Timpview’s very own senior Timothy Kimball PelePelengesi Shumway claims, “the Minecraft Movie has had more impact on me than any other movie I’ve ever seen. It is a masterpiece that has changed my life forever.” Good luck to all of those who go to the movie, I hope you make it out alive.
