Timpview’s boys’ soccer team honored 13 seniors on Tuesday night, May 6 in an emotional Senior Night matchup against Spanish Fork. Despite an energetic start from the Thunderbirds, the Dons proved too tough to overcome, leaving Timpview with a 4-1 defeat in its final home game of the season.
Before kickoff, Timpview recognized seniors Jeffery Brady (#12), Conner Nicholson (#24), Maximus Nicholson (#1), Gio Balanzar (#4), Luca Ventura (#23), Hyrum Shapiro (#17), William O’Brien (#7), Ben Gabbitas (#9), Kyle Gudmundson (#6), Beckam Hudson (#18), Peter de Guzman (#11), Luke Nelson (#2) and Lucas Lopez (#22) for their contributions to the program.
Spanish Fork struck first, netting a goal 17 minutes into the opening half. Timpview responded quickly when senior Gio Balanzar (#4) found the back of the net just minutes later, leveling the score at 1-1.
However, with 15 minutes remaining in the half, Spanish Fork capitalized on a defensive lapse and slipped an undefended goal past Timpview’s back line, regaining the lead at 2-1. The Dons controlled possession through the remainder of the half and entered the break with the advantage.
“While the seniors did their best, Spanish Fork was an immovable force that we could not defeat,” said senior Beckam Hudson following the match.
Timpview fought to stay in contention throughout the second half, but the visitors extended their lead with two additional goals. Spanish Fork’s defense tightened, limiting Timpview’s scoring opportunities and preserving the 4-1 final.
Statistically, Spanish Fork outshot Timpview 7-4 and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Timpview’s goalkeeper recorded four saves, while Spanish Fork’s keeper was tested just once.
The loss marks a bittersweet conclusion to the Thunderbirds’ home slate as the program now looks ahead to postseason play.
