Last Thursday (Aug 21), our Timpview Thunderbirds Girl’s Varsity tennis team took on the Payson Lions at home, winning seven out of seven matches. This win advanced the team to an 8-1 record so far in the season.
This is the first year that Payson High school is in the 5A region 7, and this was the first region meeting between the Thunderbirds and the Lions. The highlight match of the day was between the first varsity singles players, featuring Timpview junior, Addison Burt. After losing the first set 2-6, she bounced back and won the following two sets 6-2 and 6-4. Burt left it all on the court in the almost two and a half hour match. The girls finished the day with an all around victory.
This was a big win for Timpview’s girls, setting them up for a promising season. So far, the girls are undefeated in region, posting notable victories against Orem, Pleasant Grove, Wasatch, Springville, and Spanish Fork. This 2025 season features four senior players, Jolie Boots, Jane Miller, Elizabeth Jensen, and Piper Clawson. The performances from these seniors and the other players led the T-Birds to total victory.
In the 2024 season, the team finished second in the state, and this year is already yielding great results, only totalling one loss so far. With about half of the season left, the Thunderbirds hope to finish strong and make a run in the state playoffs tournament.
The next match will be Aug. 28 at Timpview High School vs Maple Mountain.
