Last summer when on a trip in Europe with my family, my sister played a song for me that changed the course of my life, Yellow Roses by the Salt Lake psychedelic/indie rock band, Over Under. The second I started listening to this song I knew something was special about these guys. I started noticing things about the song, like their drummer, Jaden Gwynn, was playing some of the most technical, but song-serving jazz-inspired drumming I have ever heard, that fit so beautifully into the mix. Taylor Gwynn and Max Moffet, the band’s guitarists, deliver some of the greatest solos and gorgeous chord changes in modern music, while Taylor pours his heart out with every poetically written lyric in his stunning vocals. The bassist, Landon Gwynn seems to anchor the whole thing together with great fills and lines, but lays down perfectly solid groove with Jaden whenever he needs to.
Pretty recently, the band underwent a lineup change when Landon left the band, causing Max to move over to bass, and Taylor as the band’s only guitarist. I saw this lineup in April this year at Kilby Court with some friends up in Salt Lake, and this performance genuinely changed my life. The whole time my mind and soul felt as if it was away from my body as I watched these guys deliver some of the greatest art ever made. They played some old tunes I recognized like Yellow Roses and Bus song, but then they shifted gears and started playing some songs from their then upcoming album, Memory Lane.
Memory Lane was released on Aug. 28, 2025 and produced and recorded at Pale Horse Sound in Salt Lake City. I had the opportunity to listen to it on the 27th and it was even better than I could have imagined. The album runs for 33 minutes and contains nine tracks. The singles for it were, All in my head, which is the opening track, Memory Lane, the title and closing track, and Moth Mike.
Tracklisting:
- All in my Head – The opening track was a bit of a switch up from Over Unders previous sound, involving different textures, a slightly darker atmosphere, and I am all for it. Great drum beat (that seems to be a common trait throughout the album) really cool chord progression and tone, and a phenomenal guitar solo.
- Showstopper – Really cool and spacey, really cool main guitar riff, drum fills, and that signature Over Under wash over the whole track. Really, really great ending with great bass.
- Hazy Davy – Super progressive and funky ¾ feel with everyone’s parts being super complicated but fitting together perfectly. Dope solo that finishes out the song.
- Blood – One of my biggest highlights on the record including really unique textures like violin and banjo, with really cool harmonies and lyrics. One of the softer tracks on the album.
- Watching the Clock Tick – Cool samples at the front and tail end that tie the concept of the song together really well. Has a really nice waltz feel with a great bass line and hits that keep it really interesting. Gorgeous harmonies as well.
- Moth Mike – Really great chords and melodies, but I didn’t love the vocals on it. I would say its weakest track off the album, but with the album being so great, that’s not really saying much.
- It Won’t Wait – One of the heaviest grooving tracks, the bass and the drums move as a unit through the whole song. The main guitar line is really cool and fits so well with the rest of the band.
- Hourglass – Another one of my favorite tracks, just wish it was a little longer. Perfectly written melodies and ambient guitar textures really highlight the feel of this. Really cool bass, and it switches back and forth between light and dark sections with a solo to end it. Pretty much the perfect Over Under song.
- Memory Lane – Makes sense why they named the album after this, this is some of their best work, ever. Very cool slide instrument (either slide guitar, lap steel, or pedal steel) that adds texture above the band. Then out of nowhere a screaming solo full of energy and emotion hits you, then leaves you with the outro. Perfect ending to a phenomenal album.

In my opinion, this is some of the best music being released right now, local band or not. Everyone in this band are great song writers and musicians and everytime I get the chance to see them live, I am completely blown away. At the last show of theirs I attended I got to meet the band and they were some of the nicest and most genuine people in the scene I have ever met. I even got to talk about gear and drums with Jaden right before the show. I highly recommend the album and the band, they really mean a lot to me. Go support your local bands, and a huge thank you to Over Under for continuing to make art that has changed lives, mine especially.
