School gets tough, families have problems and friends leave. Life is hard. When all these problems begin to stack up we begin to lose sight of ourselves. However just because you lose sight doesn’t mean you aren’t there.
The month of September is a month to remind us to watch out for each other and watch out for ourselves, and to prevent suicide everywhere. Although this month spotlights awareness, that doesn’t mean it’s the only month that matters, it matters every day all the time.
Although the stats are relevant and important to hear, I think at times they bring feelings of despair and hopelessness, and I’d rather lift people up. And tell people that no matter what they think, the word is better with them in it. No matter what mistakes you make or things you say, the world is better with you in it. No matter who you offend or whose heart you break, the world is better with you in it. Whether you are offended or heartbroken, the world is better with you in it.
There is no better way to live life than to just live it. Just keep living. Problems come and go, hardships stay and leave, but the same goes for positive experiences. Life ebbs and flows and living means going through the good and the bad, and to just keep going. People may tell you to “live life to the fullest” and “live everyday like it is your last”. Although these sayings may bring you hope and inspiration, you don’t need to feel like you’re wasting your life if you are not living life to the fullest. Just keep living, just keep going.
With recent events in Utah Valley it’s especially important to remember to check in with your friends, tell them you love them, give them a hug, let them know they’re important and that they are needed.
Everyone struggles, you are not alone. But your problems are still relevant. If you ever need someone to talk to you can get the SafeUT app on your phone and talk with licensed professionals that can help you work things out. You can also call or text 988 which is the US suicide prevention hotline if you ever need to talk.
Things get better, they always do. Just keep trying and just keep living.
