They’re not just in your attic collecting dust anymore! In 2025 there has been a comeback of both CDs and vinyls, pulling people away from digital audio.
There are differing opinions regarding CDs and vinyls. They can be expensive. Just to buy one album can be up to eighteen dollars. While an apple music subscription for students is five dollars per month. Many people wonder why you would buy them when your phone is cheaper and more convenient
However, overall CDs and vinyls have better sound quality. The quality of sound on music platforms is often poor. As the quality decreases in order to minimize file size. And of course many people would want to go for a more aesthetic and nostalgic feel!
Mia Salmon, a sophomore here at Timpview, shared her take on CDs:
Q: Do you think CDs are worth it even though they’re expensive?
A: “Yes, I think they’re really cute. But maybe it’s because I like old things anyways.”
After that Mia proceeded to tell a story about when her parents were dating in high school, her dad burned a CD for her mom. Now it is a good memory for them.
According to Audiophilia, “CDs are back due to lower prices, increased availability – and high quality audio”.
Overall CDs and vinyls are making a positive comeback as people rediscover the appeal of physical music.
