The Timpview Girls Volleyball team has been a powerhouse for years. They have had winning records and won the 5A state championship in 2020. Last year, in 2021, the Lady Bird Gang lost to eventual champion Mountain View in the semi-final. This year they got their revenge on Mountain View to take the state title in a 3 – 1 win on November 5th, 2022 at Utah Valley University.

In the championship game against Mountain View, the Lady Bird Gang lost the first set, but then rallied to sweep the final three sets. In the first set, Mountain View’s Mia Lee won the set with a hard kill giving the Bruins a 25-21 win. After that the Lady Bird Gand won the second set 25-20 ending with a kill from Junior Joa Roberts. The third set 25-13 with a kill from sophmore Taylah Kaufusi. And ended the third set 26-24 with a block by McKenzie Bedees that gave them the title.

The MVP of the game was the senior setter Silina Damuni who is committed to BYU in the class of 2023. She was all over the court not just setting, but digging, hitting, receiveing, and blocking.

When asked about how it felt to carry the team, she said, ”It was a team effort, volleyball is a team sport, the defense gets it up, I set the ball, and the hitters get us the points.”

Neriah Perez scored a number of the points on offense and ended up having the most kills in the game. When asked on how it felt to be the leading scorer, Perez commented, “It feels nice to contribute to my team in a good way.”

Long Beach State commit, Taliah Lee, had a strong showing was a powerhouse at the net and a solid defender. “We got it taken from us last year by small mistakes, so we fixed them and won it right back,” stated Lee.
