Benjamin Rowen, or “Ben/B”, a Junior currently enrolled at Timpview High School takes on the path of fashion design. As a young child, Rowen was always particular with what he wore and was interested in the idea of fashion. Rowen had always wanted to open a business for his ideas, but never sat down and accomplished that dream until years later (2022). Rowen was hanging out with friends. As they were talking about life and such on his couch, the topic of business came up, and something clicked, and that’s when he decided he wanted to open a fashion business. Taking this route has helped Rowen in substantial ways. “ It’s helped me with real-life skills, like communicating with customers, figuring out personal finances, and working on deadlines.” This career path has helped Rowen to be introduced to different companies and has “been able to get amazing opportunities to design.”
Rowen went on a study abroad program (January-May 2022) and fell more in love with the capabilities of expression from clothing. “I fell in love with the London fashion and how it was the vehicle of expression”. As someone who also loves fashion, I have to agree with everything Rowen stated during this interview. London fashion has been a big influence on today’s societal expectations but also has branched new types of styles that are unique and special to one particular person. London is one of the few fashion capitals, containing many of the big fashion brands you see around your home every day. When Rowen came back, he became more enthralled in his business, beginning to sell at the Beehive Bazaar and other various conventions. These conventions have been a gateway into the community and meeting fellow artists who share the same passions. They have also helped Rowen meet creators and be able to work with fellow artists in designing and manufacturing clothing for different companies. These businesses can be such an impactful thing in your life, being positive, But it does come with its negatives such as “working with deadlines. Having a sale already in the calendar, and having to get enough product ready for that deadline.” This can be stressful, but so rewarding if you love what you are working on and selling.
Being a Junior in high school, this is an amazing accomplishment. Personally knowing Rowen, he works for what he wants and is an inspiration for many people who want to start a small business such as his, and just as a human. These small businesses could be the start of something spectacular, and create a pathway for the rest of your life. One thing Rowen wants everyone to know is “BE CURIOUS. About others and the world around you. Curiosity will open the doors for empathy.” which is an amazing piece of advice that anyone could take into account! As the years go on, we are excited to see where Rowen decides to go with this talent and knowledge.
