Having days off of school is always refreshing, but can sometimes feel like a little too much free time. Aside from time with family, and rotting in your bed, here is a list of 9 exciting affordable things you can do during Christmas break these next few weeks that will help you get you in the Christmas spirit.
- Enjoy a walk through downtown Provo. Downtown Provo is full of small shops where you can shop for loved ones and live entertainment. If you go at night around the Temple you can enjoy the Christmas lights surrounding the streets.
- Host a Christmas party. A variety of Christmas movies, Gingerbread house making, karaoke, and board games can bring you and your friends together to celebrate the holiday season.
- Save money and shop 2nd hand. Utah County is lucky to be surrounded by many 2nd hand thrift stores. The DI in Springville and Provo can be full of many small treasures along with other thrift stores such as Savers, and the DI Bins in SLC if you are lucky and look hard enough.
- In Utah, we are lucky enough to have some of the best snow to ski in. Take a day trip and enjoy skiing the Greatest Snow on Earth. Here are some nearby resort: Sundance Ski Resort, Snowbird, Brighton Resort, Alta Ski Area, and many others to choose from.
- Challenge your inner Olympian and take a stab at Ice skating. Provo is lucky enough to hold an Olympic venue, the Peaks Ice Arena. They offer public skating and rentals.
- Have a winter bake-off. Spend a day with friends in the kitchen and hold your own bake-off full of Holiday desserts. Make your stomach grumble and your mouth water with treats like Gingerbread Cookies, Bread Pudding, Caramel, Toffee, Trifles, Peppermint Bark, and so on.
- Have a Christmas Movie Marathon. Christmas movies are a universal common enjoyment. Have a nonstop viewing of a variety of your favorite Christmas movies. Don’t have a favorite? - If we are lucky enough to have a white Christmas, enjoy some time outside. Snow brings us a grand amount of fun. Go sledding, build a snowman, and have a snowball fight with your friends.
- Visit the Ice Castles in Midway. The Ice Castles are full of many fun winter activities. Race down the ice slides, admire the Ice Sculptures and go sledding through a wooded winter trail.
