Past the sound of a practicing marching band and behind closed doors, Timpview’s new drama teacher is shaping her first main-stage project.
With the assistance of a professional music director, the cast of “Seussical the Musical”—comprising more than 50 of Timpview’s most dedicated actors and actresses—works diligently to bring Mrs. Naperski’s vision to life. The focus of the production is to infuse the Timpview stage with the joy and excitement of musical theater. The music is intricate and vibrant, aiming to transport audiences back to the magical feeling of reading Dr. Seuss classics for the first time.
There is a tight rehearsal schedule and the participants are dedicated. These rehearsals are preparing the students for their upcoming opening night.
As of now, the music rehearsals are one week in, and the show is gaining momentum. Leads are often asked to stand, and one of the most frequent faces in this position is 14-year-old Elsa Parry. With 10 years of dance experience and seven years of theater productions in various valley theaters, this freshman has earned the lead role. Parry’s talent is matched only by her kindness.
She is joined by a group of Timpview theater veterans, including Cannon Hadfield as Horton the Elephant, Taft Smith as the Cat in the Hat, and Gracie Griffin as Gertrude McFuzz. Also representing the class of 2028 is Rilo Webb, making her Timpview debut as the mayor’s wife. Audiences should expect to be impressed by these young performers for years to come.
While the audition and callback process is competitive and stressful, the overall atmosphere is one of love and support, which has carried over into the rehearsal process. The cast has already grown close, with many members challenging themselves to learn everyone’s names and engage in meaningful conversations with their fellow cast-mates.
This positive environment is thanks to the community Mrs. Naperski and the directing and choreography team have worked to create. They emphasize professionalism alongside kindness, making rehearsals more enjoyable and ultimately leading to a better experience for both the cast and the future audience.
The cast of “Seussical” hopes one of “the places you’ll go” this Nov. 14-19 is their show, where audiences can be transported back to the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss.
