This year, Timpview students and teachers had the opportunity to help families in need get the holiday that they deserve. Instead of the typical Sub-for-Santa that Timpview does, this year involved an Angel Tree where students or teachers could take a name from the tree, which had detailed information of what the individual wanted and needed for Christmas. The needs on the tree included food, clothing, toys, hygiene products, and many more. One aspect about the Angel Tree that stuck out to many was that there were 3 different categories. They were: (1) kids, (2) adults with disabilities, and (3) kids in detention centers. People who were donated had a say in their gift-giving, as they could select anyone off of the tree to help.
Cassidy Baker, the Student Government teacher in charge of the Angel Tree said that in “the last few weeks, there were so many students who came up and got tags from the Angel Tree.” Seeing students be proactive about their community made Ms. Baker overjoyed.
The Angel Tree brought joy to not only the people receiving the gifts, but the students who were giving. One student said that “[she] felt so much joy while shopping for others.” Her experience captures the community aspect of the tree, and that she felt that her contribution was beneficial to the school. There were many students around the school who were ready to help, and when they got a hold of a tag from the Tree, there was so much joy to spread.
There is so much good you can do this holiday. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Angel Tree and helped contribute to Sub-for-Santa in other ways. We encourage everyone to find a way to give back this holiday season!
