When it comes to self-tanning, opinions are as diverse. They range from concerns about health to personal preferences on appearance. The debate rages on among teens and young adults. Several Timpview students offered their perspectives on the topic.
The Preference for Tan: Henry Robison says, “I’d rather have a girl be tan but I don’t know anything about self-tanning or the beds.” His honest admission highlights a common sentiment: the appreciation for a sun-kissed look without necessarily knowing the process behind it, and the possibilities of results.
Health Concerns: Tessa Callaway firmly believes that self-tanning is a safer alternative, stating, “Self tan—it’s easier and doesn’t cause cancer.” This perspective shows the growing awareness about the dangers of UV radiation from tanning beds.
The Battle of Options: Biff Stone adds an interesting twist, mentioning, “Self tan but if my mom let me go to the beds, I’d go.” For Biff, she faces conflict between convenience, health, and parental influence.
Natural Looks Matter: Eliot and Duncan share a similar sentiment about the importance of a natural appearance. Duncan says, “Natural, if it’s the tanning beds, then it’s chill but spray tan no.” Eliot adds, “Whatever the girl wants to do. Only if you can tell, like if it’s orange. It just has to look natural.” Their views emphasize the significance of authenticity in self-tanning efforts.
Faith Over Appearance: Calvin Lillywhite offers a unique perspective, that inner values trump outward appearances: “All that matters is their belief in God.” For Calvin, the conversation extends beyond aesthetics to encompass personal beliefs and spirituality.
Popular Choice: Lastly, Pua Mounga straightforwardly expresses his preference, “I like a girl to be tan. I prefer tanning beds because you can tell when it’s self tan.” This shows the subtle judgments people make about different tanning methods.
Ultimately, the discussion about self-tanning is complex and influenced by health and societal standards. Whether one opts for self-tanning lotions, sprays, or the traditional tanning bed, it’s clear that the goal remains the same: to look natural. If you can’t stand being pale in the winter, make sure it looks natural, otherwise it is obvious. Overall, most students prefers a natural tan. No streaks or crazy orange. As long as its natural, no one will question the tan, or if it is “fake”, but instead, they will just compliment your beauty.
