The Oscars stand out annually as an important moment in fashion even despite the controversial acceptance speeches and snubs. This year, the Oscars took place on March 2, 2025 in Hollywood. While the Oscars are really about the awards, many value the notable outfits worn on the red carpet.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo: The most iconic looks of the night were worn by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. These actresses were nominated for their outstanding work on Wicked, which held several nominees and even won some awards. While the costars wore different outfits for their opening performance, the outfits that they wore on the red carpet reflected their characters from the movie. Grande wore a structured and architectural dress that took the stage. It featured a light pink, sleeveless bodice that ran down into a wavy skirt. From the skirt, were drapes of fabric, giving the dress an unseen, unique effect. The dress, from Schiaparelli, was the perfect reference to Glinda from Wicked and fit Grande perfectly. On the other side, Cynthia Erivo wore a deep green Louis Vuitton dress which was a nod to her character, Elphaba. Erivo’s dress was also a structural masterpiece that featured an enormous skirt, wide sleeves that resembled a bow, and a unique collar. The two costars posed together was the perfect addition to their film and they stunned the red carpet.
Timothee Chalamet: Actor Timothee Chalamet was nominated for his role in A Complete Unknown, in which he was expected to win for the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role. Although Chalamet did not come home with an award for the Bob Dylan biopic, he still shone on the red carpet. Timothee wore a butter yellow Givenchy suit that was bold and stood out in the sea of black tuxedos. The suit had a typically shape but the eye-catching color set this look apart. Chalamet was able to create an iconic look without overstepping into craziness.
Halle Berry: The red carpet trendsetter Halle Berry wore a mirrored crystal dress by Christian Siriano to the 2025 Oscars. Berry, who presented at the ceremony was wearing a fitted silver gown that was made from 7,000 mirrored crystals. The dress featured a corseted bodice and a mermaid-style skirt with a train in the back. This was an outfit that could be seen from across the room, as she literally outshone everyone.
Andrew Garfield: Another notable look from the men’s fashion world was Andrew Garfield’s. The actor, who was presenting at the ceremony, wore a monochromatic brown suit from his shoes up to the sunglasses that he wore. This look, similarly to Chalamet’s was the perfect amount of classy while still standing apart from what other men were wearing.
Adam Sandler: Finally, one of the most recognizable and notable looks of the night was actually from Adam Sandler. The actor made a surprise appearance during Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue, where he called out Sandler for his lack of fashion and carefree outfits when it comes to important events. Sandler wore a light blue oversized hoodie with a pair of dark blue basketball shorts. Talk about standing out.
