On April 22, History was made at Timpview High School when the school officially opened its first-ever softball field. Students, staff, parents, and alumni gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking a major milestone for the school’s athletic program.
For decades, Timpview’s softball team practiced and played home games on borrowed fields, often traveling to nearby parks or sharing space with other teams. Now, for the first time, the softball team finally has a field to call its own.
The field features a professionally graded dirt infield, lush green turf in the outfield, brand-new dugouts, a scoreboard, and a small but mighty set of bleachers. The word “Thunderbirds” is proudly printed just east of the field on the back of the football bleachers, a reminder that this space now belongs to the school’s long-overlooked softball team.
The ceremony began with speeches from school officials, including Principal Tu’ua, who acknowledged the years of hard work that led to this moment.
Superintendent Wendy Dau even gave the first pitch on our new and beautiful field. She made her way up to the plate and then threw the ball to Timpviews’s catcher, Gwen Pyrah.
This field is not only a huge help to the girls softball team, but it’s also an accomplishment for all girls in sports at Timpview.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony it was clear that Timpview High’s new athletic facility is more than a place to play—it’s a promise to the future of the program and the athletes who have waited far too long.
