Timpview’s 2025 Prom was last Saturday, April 26th, at the school in the brand new North Gym. A lot of people had mixed feelings about the location of the big night. Senior Joey Covey said, “I was a little disappointed because I’ve heard about students in the past going to a special location and we are stuck having almost every dance in one of our gyms.” Junior Liz Beutler said “dances at the school aren’t my favorite but it wasn’t too bad in the new North Gym.”
Timpview did a pretty good job decorating for the special night, with things such as a big red carpet for couples who chose to attend the promenade as well as balloons and streamers leading into the dance. The theme was Met Gala, I did see a couple people dressing up for the theme but most couples just went in nicer suits and dresses. The vibe was definitely more fancy than the other dances, which is good considering that it was in fact Prom. Not many boys went with the full tuxedo look, although there were a few. And the girls’ dresses were more flashy than previous dances, such as Homecoming or Morp.
The DJ took students’ requests for about the first 40 min of the dance which was a bad idea when many of the students started booing the music that others had chosen and demanded more hype songs. The DJ quickly responded by turning up the music and playing the bangers that the students wanted.
Many traditions took place throughout the night. For example, the Promenade where all the couples can walk across the red carpet in front of all the parents. This has become a much less popular tradition as time goes on just because students don’t think it is as important as they used to or just don’t care. However, this year, there was negative feedback on the Promenade. Many students thought that the location was not ideal. There were makeshift stairs between the larger stairs that were in the Great Hall. The lights were on, the room was packed, and there wasn’t enough seating. Compared to the success of last year in the Thunderdome, this year’s Promenade wasn’t as good.
Prom Royalty for the Juniors and Seniors was announced in the middle of the dance. And, of course they always have the photo booths that many couples use.
Overall, there was a lot of work that went into Prom night that made it successful, however, there are a few things that I would change. It felt like there was minimal effort put into choosing a location. I feel that because this was the last dance for the majority of the people there, they could’ve chosen a nicer venue. In the end, my Senior prom was a night to remember.
