The drink supplement company MixHers has been a sponsor of the Timpview cheer team for the past four years, but this year the company upped their game. CEO and co-founder of MixHers Jess Toolson brought each member of the Timpview cheer team a box of supplements worth roughly $50 or $60 retail price. These supplements are primarily for women’s menstrual symptoms, but are not limited to other health issues, such as hydration, greens, vitamins, focus and more.
With 37 members on the team plus coaches this was a vast opportunity for the cheer program. As the excitement grew surrounding the products, Toolson introduced a challenge for the team. She explained that she had provided the same opportunity to the Orem High girls volleyball team, and they and the cheer team would compete to receive more sponsorships. Although Timpview has a long history of rivalries with Orem, both teams agreed this would be a friendly competition.
In order to compete, both teams were required to post an Instagram reel including their team and the MixHers products. The challenge officially started on Monday August 25 when MixHers reposted Orem’s and Timpview’s reels, and the post with the most views would win more benefits. Timpview Cheer worked hard to grow the activity on the reel, and cheer captain, Maeve Lewis, said “I feel like it [the competition] united us.” Finally, on Tuesday, September 2, Timpview cheer coach Zoë Hale announced at practice that they had defeated Orem and would receive the extra sponsorships that MixHers had promised.
Now that they’ve won, the cheerleaders await a Crumbl cookie party, a personalized discount code where a portion of the funds go to the team, and the opportunity to share their sponsorship with more people at Timpview. Maeve Lewis shared her optimism about the team’s season and hopes this experience will help the cheerleaders see that hard work and unity can accomplish a lot. As the team continues to practice and perform, they are grateful to MixHers, and especially Jess Toolson, for giving them this generous opportunity that will help them succeed this season.
