On October 11, Benson Boone concluded the US part of his 2025 world tour in Salt Lake City. I was really excited to be at the concert last Saturday night, and it exceeded my expectations.
From vintage TVs with concert teasers and desert scenes, to the fun tour merch, to colorful postcards and stamps on the big screens, to the bright red stage with Benson’s initials, my friend and I got immersed in the mood and excitement right when we walked inside. After riding up in the FrontRunner with tons of other chaotic concert goers and getting drenched by the rain while running from platform to platform to catch the Trax, we rushed inside, and ran to one of the little merch stores, ready to get sweatshirts to warm us up.
The pre-concert performer, coming all the way from Scotland, was Brooke Combe. She kicked off the concert with some powerful vocals, and her energy got everyone hyped for the concert. I wasn’t a huge fan of her music, but it was a fun opener and contrasted Benson’s performance well.
As for Benson Boone… He was amazing!
Living up to his flipping reputation, he backflipped the second he appeared on stage. Throughout the concert, Benson continued to get roaring reactions from his 10+ nonchalant flips and impressive jumps. Before going to the concert, I honestly thought the backflips were so overrated, but they turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the night.
In contrast to what I had heard, although the 18,000 of us in the audience were singing along to every song, it wasn’t hard to hear Benson’s vocals. His strong voice really added another level of intensity and power to his performance, sparking unforgettable emotions throughout the crowd. The glittery pianos were mesmerizing (yes, he did climb on them a few times) and his costumes were awesome, especially the sparkling blue one he changed into halfway through.
Benson had a moonbeam ice cream entrance, floating in on a chandelier for Mystical Magical. He showed off his piano skills, accompanying himself for some of his songs and playing a solo during Mr Electric Blue. He performed a medley of three of his older songs Let Me Go / There She Goes / Sugar Sweet which really excited people who have been listening from the start, before he went viral. He had us in tears from his performance of In the Stars. “It was just so beautiful to hear him sing,” my friend told me.
Benson brought his best friend on stage to help introduce his next song. He would typically do a cover, but he told us “tonight’s song is a little bit of a different song.” Instead of a cover, he surprised the audience with an unreleased song! It was actually one of my favorite songs, especially because people couldn’t sing along, so it created such a unique stillness and powerful connection between him and the crowd.
His performance of Young American Heart was electrifying, booming through the arena. Pyrotechnics lit up the air and confetti exploded for the final chorus. Momma Song was so sweet and heartfelt, and adorable, old family videos showed on the screen as Benson sang.
Before performing Reminds Me of You, he asked a girl in the audience about her crush, and then made up and acted out the most entertaining story about them. This included a couple lines that the audience couldn’t get over: “you and Sam don’t do what you usually do in a Utah parking lot. Instead, you talk! You use your mouth in a different way!”
His final song was the song that helped skyrocket his popularity back in January 2024: Beautiful Things. Everyone knew all the words and the arena was filled with a crazy energy. It was a great song to end with.
But of course you need an encore, and of course Benson didn’t disappoint. After disappearing for a long few minutes, he was back on stage to perform Cry, which was the perfect finale for his concert.
