The Timpview T-Birds defeated the Wasatch Wasps, 40-15 Friday (Oct 24) night on the hill, furthering Timpview football to the 2nd round of state playoffs. The offense excelled, led by Cole Engemann in his 2nd standout game of the season. They were able to complete passes and effectively run the ball all throughout the game. On the defensive end there were little to no errors, and countless well earned stops, forcing a ecstatic victory.
On the offensive side of the ball, senior quarterback Cole Engemann was extremely successful with 3 total touchdowns. He had a season high 25/34 on his passing attempts setting up 328 passing yards on the night. The run game for Timpview was established much quicker than in prior games, with sophomore Taani Tuha rushing for 80 yards on 12 attempts and getting in for a touchdown. With little to no difficulty scoring the ball on Friday, it was no surprise that Timpview emerged victorious. The question is, how will Timpview recreate this success? When Cole Engemann was questioned with this he responded by saying, “We really need to just stick to the game plan, follow our roles, and execute. I played great last week but I was just following the game plan.”
With such a low score put on the board by the Wasatch Wasps, there are questions as to whether there are defensive strategies that TImpview was able to exploit. The T-birds made countless stops, and prevented high yardage plays that seemed to put them in this dominant position. When Braxton Wilkerson was questioned about changes or ideas implored to find this success, he said, “We really need to just stay together, trust each other, and have each other’s backs. That kind of unity is the best thing a team can have.” With this statement there is hope that Timpview Football defense may have the required solutions they need for their upcoming week.
With this dominant win, the T-Birds showed glimpses of potential on both sides of the ball that could spark an upset against No. 4 seed Orem on October 31. With this renewed confidence coming from a blowout playoff win, Orem could be on the short list of second round upsets.
