On October 5th, Addison Burt battled to win the 5A Girls tennis 3rd singles State Championship. Addi went into the state tournament as the #2 seed right behind #1 seed Lila Johnson from Woods Cross. Going into the tournament, the girls had high hopes knowing they could do well. Although there was excitement for the whole team, everyone was especially rooting for Addi.
Earlier in the season, Addi had faced Lila Johnson in a match and lost. The coach Nate Warner said “I knew Addi was the better player.” He continued, “after seeing them play the first time, I knew if Addi played her game she could beat her.” During the finals there were some really great rallies. “That girl is like a backboard” said a spectator watching the match, and they were right. Her competitor played an amazing match and fought hard, but in the end Addi’s amazing ground strokes and overheads sealed the deal. When Addi won the last point to win the championship she broke into tears and her teammates all rushed onto the court to congratulate her. “Winning the state title means everything,” said Addi.
Overall Timpview Girls Tennis took 2nd as a team.
