After coming home from an away game at Salem Hills, where they faced a tough 14-0 loss, the Timpview girl’s lacrosse team is nearing the end of their season. Watching the team, I have seen some hard losses, as they are currently standing at 5 wins and 10 losses. But, I’ve also seen some incredible wins. Smiles on their faces as they beat Mountain View 16-0, each girl on the side line spinning after each goal, “one, two, three, four..”
I’ve noticed that through all of this, the girls on the team seem to have a great friendship with one another. Always cheering each other on, and celebrating their teammates’ wins. I decided I wanted to dive deeper into the team and ask the girls what it is they love about their sport and how they have built these friendships.
I asked Senior Varsity Captain, Rubie Blum, what she loves about lacrosse, the team, and how she thinks their season is going so far.
“I love absolutely everything about the team!” Blum stated. “Each girl brings something unique to the team and I seriously admire how much work they have put into both their indivi
dual and team skills this season! Right now the girls [lacrosse] team is in a stage of rebuilding, and so far it’s going better than we could have hoped.
With a new coach and a bunch of new freshmen, one could argue that we are having one of the best seasons so far at Timpview. While the scores of the games may not show it, the effort and love the girls have for the game shows just a fraction of how wonderful this team is. I could not be more proud of my teammates!”
Freshman attack and midfielder, Sloane Knudsen, also shared her thoughts, “I love that you build a family, and it’s such a welcoming community.” I asked her how she felt the season was going, she said, “I wasn’t there last year, but I think we’ve improved a lot more from last year. I think we still have a ways to go, but I think we can do it.”
Hearing these girls talk about the community they have built, and the pride they have for themselves and their teammates, goes to show just how passionate each of them are. These girls are the toughest of the tough. They fight hard. Their commitment to the team is astounding, and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the season takes them.
Come support seniors Rubie Blum, Juju Ruiz, Elle Christianson, Rachel Ryu, Anzheilka Bordin, Annie Youngblood, and Lyla Eyre, at their Senior Night tonight, May 1st, at 5:30 p.m. during their home game against Wasatch.
