Though the results are not yet official, it appears that there was a significant upset in the race for Provo’s mayor.
Although at first it looked as if incumbent Mayor Michelle Kaufusi would win a third term, things suddenly turned and Marsha Judkins now has what appears to be an insurmountable lead and will most likely be the next Mayor.
Kaufusi conceded on Nov. 6, posting on Facebook “Thank you again for allowing me this phenomenal experience. What I will miss most will not be the projects and meetings; it will be the great people I have worked with through these eight years. You will always be in my heart.”
On the same day, Judkins, a former member of the House of Representative, also on Facebook posted “Thank you!!! – I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Mayor Michelle Kaufusi for her years of dedicated service and leadership.”
The most recent results, updated on November 7th according to the state of Utah, shows Judkins with 8,682 votes (51.26 percent) to Kaufusi’s 8,256 (48.74 percent).
The vote becomes official no later than Nov. 18, when Utah County’s board of canvassers finalize the numbers.
