Yesterday, police identified a 72 year old man that was fatally struck and killed while attempting to cross the street on his mobility scooter.
Maries Johnybear was navigating State Street in Provo around 1980 North at 1:00 p.m., suddenly being struck by a vehicle, according to the Provo police. Johnybear was supposedly not using an intersection or crosswalk when this tragedy occurred.
Johnybear only passed 5 of the 6 lanes before being hit. Strangely, the driver at the helm of the crash was not intoxicated nor distracted in any way. Provo Police concluded that a connection between the busy street and the low visibility likely led to the sad event. The speed limit at 45 mph without any reports of speeding was a factor too.
Undoubtedly, this shouldn’t be a situation that anyone ever faces, and senior citizens who are susceptible to accidents should always be monitored. Updates on this situation will continue.
