In schools all across Utah, garage bands are plugging in their amps and tuning up their drum sets, soloists are perfecting their lyrics, and everyone is frantically trying to get their lyrics past the PTA’s strict guidelines.

Timpview’s Battle of the Bands will take place January 23rd at 12:30 in the auditorium. Bands, duets, and soloists are all welcome to sign up using this link. Soloists will perform one song, either a cover or an original and they will be given 5 minutes. Bands perform a cover and an original and will be given 10 minutes. These time limits do not include set up and take down.

There’s no official list of bands/soloists competing, but some known performers are:

• Madder Baby, an indie band of sophomores Calvin Craig, Tyler Ning, Henry Osguthorpe, and Will Reid
• DanB, an indie rock band of sophomores Fe Packard and Will Haraguchi and seniors Joss McFarland and Liam Packard
• Lady Macbeth, a metal band of juniors Sebastian Mitchell, Olivia Rowley, Maddie Sawyer, and Sloan Chase (yes this is my band), with sophomore Kylie Shobe as a guest star on piano
• Lily Ridley, a soloist singing an original song in the folk-pop style

Judges will score based on 4 categories: Technical/Music Proficiency, Audience/Performance Engagement, Preparation/Act Construction and after all the categories are added up there will be a separate top 3 for bands and soloists. The first place winners from both will go on to the next level, with the final level being State.

In addition to the main event, Timpview clubs have been invited to sign up to have a booth outside the entrance to the auditorium to promote their club to event goers. Especially for music, art, or culture oriented clubs, this could be a great way to get more like-minded members.

Hopefully you already want to show up and support the awesome musicians at this school, but if you need any more incentive, there will be pizza for the first 100 audience members.
