The Lady T-Birds took down the Bingham Miners, 56-29 on Tuesday (Oct 28). This win boosts the T-Birds further into the state tournament, playing either Lone Peak or Park City next. The offense shone, led by senior quarterback Anuhea Lauano and senior running back Amaya Tolman. The offense was able to move the ball both in the air and on the ground. On the defensive side, the T-Birds were able to hold Bingham to under 30 points, and forced several turnovers. These turnovers ultimately led to the T-Bird’s victory.
The offense shone all around, but their running game is what set them apart, with 6 total rushing touchdowns. Senior back Amaya Tolman was able to find the endzone on three separate occasions, scoring almost half of the team’s total points. Quarterback Anuhea Lauano also helped establish the passing games with two total touchdown passes. The ecstatic run game and the teams’ overall ability to find the endzone is what propelled this team to the next round of the state tournament. With Timpview’s continued domination throughout the season, I asked senior Caroline Doxey how they stay humble even when winning by a large margin. Doxey responded, “The energy has been super positive and super hype but we still wanted to do our best. Our coach tells us ‘don’t let good stop you from being great’”. Their ability to play to their best abilities, even when winning by so much, has really set this team apart as serious title contenders.
On the defensive side of the ball, the T-birds struggled slightly. They allowed 29 points, a season high, against a strong Bignham offense. While some questions were asked about the defenses, they still were able to come up with three interceptions, helping the offense further extend their lead. The team’s defense has been solid all season, only allowing an average of 15 points across 8 games, including a shut out against Granger in Week 3. When an anonymous player was asked how they moved on from defensive errors she said “After big mistakes or big plays we would just assess what went wrong in the huddle and we’d fix it the next play. We wouldn’t let it affect us mentally”. This statement provides hope that this defense can fix their mistakes before their next game, and return to their usual dominance.
With another blow out win, and stellar performances on both sides of the ball, Timpview students can remain optimistic for a win in the next round against their respective opponent. The confidence gained from another comfortable win, an upset seems highly unlikely, and another round of football seems ever so close.
