The Timpview basketball team defeated Bingham High School 75-58 on Tuesday Nov. 18, in the season opener. It was the T-Birds’ first game under new head coach Bradley Kitchen. BYU commit and senior Dean Reuckert led the team with 34 points and 2 rebounds. Another cougar commit, senior Will Openshaw, recorded a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Thunderbirds’ preparation and hard work before the season paid off, completing an impressive victory. Even without players who transferred to other schools in the area—notably senior Callen Tollestrup, who transferred to Provo High, and senior Aisa Galea’i, who transferred to Orem High—the team still found success. They relied on younger players such as sophomore Jackson Ford, who recorded 5 points and 9 assists in the game. One notable play from Ford was an alley-oop pass to Dean Reuckert’s slam dunk, which only added to the Thunderbirds’ momentum and energy.
Reuckert’s impressive scoring ability is one of the key reasons BYU made an offer to him, and they surely made the right call doing so. Only time will tell what Dean is able to accomplish this season, but teammates, coaches, fans and spectators alike are ready to see him soar.
Timpview hopes to continue their dominance as they play Timpanogos on Friday, Nov. 21, at Timpanogos High.
