The Timpview Thunderbirds moved to 2-0 on the season with a dominant 69-39 win over the Timpanogos Timberwolves on Friday (Nov. 21). From the opening tip, Timpview controlled the pace, the glass, and the scoreboard, never letting the Wolves build any momentum.
Senior wing Dean Ruckert delivered one of the best performances of the night dropping 20 points on an impressive 8 of 14 shooting while knocking down four threes. His rhythm on the perimeter helped Timpview stretch the lead early and keep it rolling all game. Inside, senior Will Openshaw continued his strong start of the season with 18 points, finishing through contact and cleaning up around the rim. He added five rebounds and set the tone for Timpview. Senior Lincoln Holcombe started the game hot with the first 6 points of the game and added an impressive 7 boards. Senior Cooper Cleveland also shot 2/3 from the three point line. All together the Thunderbirds racked up 19 assists on 27 made baskets, moving the ball smoothly. Timpview was red hot from deep shooting 11/21 from three and 27/49 overall.
Timpview held the Timberwolves to just 39 points, forcing turnovers, contesting shots, and controlling the boards, The Thunderbirds length and communication led to an impressive 23 deflections. Timpview still has some work to polish up, but looks promising for their next matchup against American Fork on Wednesday (Nov. 26).
