This past weekend, Timpview Basketball played in 2 games at Corner Canyon High School in the Tournament of Champions. Their first game was Friday, December 5th against Foothill (Henderson) and second was Saturday, December 6th, against Skryidge.
Timpview handled Foothill easily, winning 76-33. This was led by Senior star Dean Rueckert (right), who had the game high 18 points on 7-13 from the field. Backing him up was Junior Taj Taylor (left), who added on 13 of his own. Contributions also came from Seniors Will Openshaw (11pts) and Cooper Cleveland (9pts). Foothill struggled to get past Timpviews tough defense, with their leading scorer being Sophomore Aarom Garbutt, with 9 points. Timpview played confident, and showed dominance the entire game.
Game 2 was a slightly different story. Many momentum shifts in the first half allowed Skyridge to keep up with the Thunderbirds in the first half. Timpview entered the locker room only up by one point, 30-29. The second half, on the other hand, was much different. Timpviews defense allowed only 19 points in the second half, allowing them to pull away in a 67-48 win, moving them to 5-0. Once again, Dean led Timpview in scoring, throwing on another 18 points. Will Openshaw also threw on 15 of his own, as the 2 BYU commits continue to shine on the floor together. Skyridge was led by Seniors Carson Mosteller and Joel Gardener, who both had 11 points.
Timpview’s next game will be their first home game of the season. They will take on the Dixie Flyers on Wednesday, December 10th, at 7pm.
