Timpview Basketball participated in the Platinum Division of the Tarkanian Classic this past December, and made it all the way to the championship game, before taking a tough loss.
Timpview started the tournament off very steady, with a good win against Oak Ridge (Florida), 85-76. Senior Mason Ford led the T-Birds in game 1, with 25 points. He was closely backed up by Senior Dean Rueckert, who added on 24 of his own.
In the second round, Timpview beat Centennial (California) by a score of 67-56. Dean had another phenomenal game, with 28 points, going 10-19 from the field.
Timpview had a much closer game in the third round, facing off against Santa Margarita (California). Despite poor free throw shooting down the stretch, Timpview ended up pulling off the win, 61-59. Dean Rueckert was once again the star of the game, finishing with a double-double 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Timpview ended up playing top ranked Redondo Union (California) in the Championship game. Timpview got off to a rough start, down 10 points early. Dean sat out a fair share of the first half, after suffering an eye injury early. This made it tough for the Timpview offense to get going. The rest of the game was much of the same, and led to the T-Birds taking the tough 70-56 loss, their first of the season.
Overall, the tournament was a huge success for the team, and making it to the championship game in the Platinum division is a huge accomplishment. The T-Birds will start region play this Friday, January 16th, in a home game against the Payson Lions.
